Illegal import of jewelry from Iran to Azerbaijan prevented

Illegal import of about 11 kg of gold from Iran to Azerbaijan has been prevented, the internet news portal report.az reports with reference to the press center of the State Border Service of the country.
It was noted that on June 1, 2022, at about 03:20, two unidentified persons violated the state border and crossed from Iran to Azerbaijan in the zone of the border post near the village of Avash, Yardimli region.
Law enforcement agencies were informed about the incident, and they began to pursue the border violators, as a result of which one of the violators was detained in the courtyard of his house. It was established that this is a resident of the village of Avash, Yardimli region Guliyev Mehman Valeh oglu, born in 1986.
During interrogation, M. Guliyev admitted that, together with fellow villager Rahim Mayilov, born in 1990, he violated the state border in order to import jewelry from Iran at the request of another resident of the village of Agayev, Nazim Imanali oglu (born in 1978).
During the search in the house of M. Guliyev, 10 kg 790 g of jewelry similar to gold was found.
When R. Mayilov’s apartment was examined, 7,050 packs of Marlboro cigarettes smuggled in from Iran were found and confiscated.
A resident of the village of Avash, the alleged customer of the smuggled goods Agayev Nazim Imanali oglu, was detained, and the search for R. Mayilov continues.
