Fraud accused asks for reduced sentence

Accused of fraud in the amount of 1.4 million manats belonging to his uncle Amil Aliyev, Orkhan Maharramov filed a cassation appeal with the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan in order to achieve a mitigation of punishment, reports oxu.az. The date of the preliminary meeting has not yet been announced.

The Baku Grave Crimes Court sentenced O. Maharramov to 6 years and 6 months in prison. The Baku Court of Appeal did not satisfy his complaint.

On the basis of the statement of the victim, a preliminary investigation was carried out at the Main Police Department of the city of Baku. In a criminal case initiated under article 178.3.2 (fraud committed with causing major damage) of the Criminal Code, in December 2019, O. Maharramov was put on the wanted list.
