Person detained for false report of robbery

A taxi driver has been arrested for deliberately reporting a robbery to police, Oxu.Az reports, citing the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan. Hikmet Hasanov, a 42-year-old Baku resident who works as a taxi driver, reported to police on January 3rd that he had been assaulted by a passenger who had boarded his car in the Khatai District.

He claimed that an unknown individual had stolen 80 manat from him at gunpoint. Investigations by officers from the 36th Department of the Khatai District Police Department established that Hasanov had deliberately provided false information to law enforcement.

It was discovered that the taxi driver had deliberately reported the robbery because the passenger had failed to pay the fare. He admitted this during the investigation.

Kh. Gasanov was detained by police officers, and a criminal case has been opened against him. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
