An attempt to smuggle a large consignment of drugs into Azerbaijan prevented

Joint operations between the State Security Service (SSS) and the State Border Service of Azerbaijan to combat drug smuggling and trafficking are continuing successfully, Oxu.Az reports, citing the SSS. As a result of operational investigative measures, Goja Orujov (born 1994) was detained.
It was established that he had a criminal connection with a citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran and, on April 11 of this year, transported a large consignment of narcotics from the Beylagan district to Baku, illegally imported into the Republic of Azerbaijan from Iran for the purpose of sale.
During the inspection, dried marijuana weighing a total of 16.7 kg, as well as 3,500 Methadone M-40 tablets containing narcotic substances, were discovered and seized.
The Main Investigation Department of the State Security Service has opened a criminal case against G. Orujov under Articles 206.3.2, 234.4.1, and 234.4.3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. By court order, he has been remanded in custody.
Investigative actions regarding this incident are ongoing.
