E. Hasanov sentenced to 10 years in prison

Former Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina Eldar Hasanov was sentenced to 10 years in prison, report.az internet news portal reports.

On the criminal case initiated by the State Security Service (SSS) in connection with the fact that some officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan abuse their powers, commit actions that cause significant damage to the legally protected interests of the state, as well as on the facts of abuse of official powers, misappropriation, bribery, the head of the Department of Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the chairman of the tender commission of the ministry, Farhad Mollazade, the head of the Consular Department, Faig Baghirov and others, were prosecuted, and a measure of restraint in the form of arrest was chosen against them by a court decision.

In the course of operational and investigative measures on the ongoing criminal case, new information was obtained on the misappropriation of state budget funds allocated for various areas of activity of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Based on the collected materials, a comprehensive audit on financial and economic activities was appointed by the appropriate decision, during which there were grounds for suspicion that the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina Hasanov Eldar Gumbat oglu misused significant budgetary funds and committed other offences.

As part of the investigation, Eldar Hasanov was detained as a suspect. In relation to him, by the decision of the Sabail District Court, a measure of restraint in the form of detention was chosen.

The criminal case against other participants in the crimes, accused together with E. Hasanov, was separated into a separate proceeding.

Arrested a person who transporting the drug in a car

A resident of the city of Lankaran, Vusal Huseynov, born in 1981, previously convicted under Articles 177 (theft) and 234 (illicit drug trafficking) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, transported drugs in a Daewoo car, the oxu.az information Internet portal reports with reference to the head of the Department for Media and Public Relations of the Press Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Police Major Elshada Hajiyeva.

According to him, yesterday, during an event held by employees of the 7th station of the Binagadi district police department, the suspect, trying to escape, directed the car at the police.

However, the police stopped the vehicle with a shot in the wheel. According to the driver, he did not expect the police to open fire and saw the tenacity of the police in the fight against drugs. During the inspection, a large consignment of heroin, as well as psychotropic substances, was found and seized in his car and in his car.

The Lankaran Court of the Grave Crimes has sentenced mullah Murad Askerov, accused of murdering a woman in Lerik, oxu.az reports. By a court decision, he was imprisoned for a period of 12 years and 8 months.

Dissatisfied with the verdict, M. Askerov filed an appeal. However, the Shirvan Court of Appeal did not satisfy it and upheld the verdict of the court of first instance.

The incident occurred on April 28, 2021 in the village of Barzavu, Lerik region.

M. Askerov (born in 1972) entered the house of fellow villager Zakifa Farziyeva (born in 1981), knowing that she was alone. The man tried to rape her, but she started screaming and calling for help from neighbors. Then M. Askerov killed a woman by cutting her throat with a knife that he carried in his pocket.

M. Askerov was detained. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime.

The investigating body charged him under Articles 120.1 (premeditated murder) and 157.1 (violation of housing integrity, entry into a dwelling against the will of a person living in it) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Z. Farziyeva left three children.

Drug smuggling prevented

Drug smuggling from Iran to Azerbaijan has been prevented, APA reports quoting the press service of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan.

So, in recent days, employees of the border detachments “Horadiz” and “Lankaran” of the State Border Service prevented the smuggling of 22 kilograms 496 grams of narcotic drugs and 1090 units of psychotropic substances to the Republic of Azerbaijan through the state border.

Based on these facts, operational and investigative actions are ongoing.
