38-year-old Nazim Hasanzade, suspected of abusing citizens’ trust and causing them material damage, has been detained, Oxu.Az reports, citing the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He posed as a relative of an official and thus obtained various amounts of money.

Furthermore, it was established that he caused material damage to a company. The detainee has been placed under arrest, and the investigation is ongoing.

It should be noted that a criminal case had previously been opened against him for causing material damage to two other individuals totaling approximately 20,000 manat under the pretext of employment. The preliminary investigation has been completed and sent to court for consideration.

The Main Directorate for Combating Cybercrime (MDCC) under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan conducted another operation as part of international legal assistance and mutual cooperation with foreign law enforcement agencies, Report informs, citing the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The cyber police received intelligence on Azerbaijani citizens who organized a fraudulent scheme under the guise of online cryptocurrency transactions, causing significant losses to foreign citizens.

As a result of operational and technical measures, Malik Huseynov and Mahmud Askerli, previously convicted of similar crimes in Turkey and Russia, were detained.

The investigation has established details of the criminal scheme: Huseynov and Askerli rented office space in a shopping center in a foreign country. Huseynov then approached a currency exchange office located in the same building, offering to exchange 600,000 counterfeit US dollars for the equivalent in USDT cryptocurrency. After receiving confirmation that the cryptocurrency had been deposited into his account in excess of 1 million manat, he left the country.

A criminal case has been opened. The court ordered both suspects to be held in custody.

The investigation is currently ongoing.

Over 148 kg of narcotics detected and seized

As a result of operations conducted by officers of the Astara Customs Administration, over 148 kg of narcotics were discovered and seized from illegal circulation, Oxu.Az reports, citing the State Customs Committee (SCC).

The drugs were discovered in a vehicle carrying celery and lettuce from Iran to Russia in transit through our country.

“During an inspection using a stationary X-ray machine, suspicious lines were noticed, resulting in a customs inspection of the truck using a canine service dog.

Narcotics concealed from customs control were discovered in two pallets in the vehicle: 58 kg 610 g of hashish and 89 kg 705 g of marijuana.

An investigation is underway,” the report states.
