Sentences handed down for cybercrime suspects

A court hearing was held in the criminal case of Igor Zabolotsky and Ilnur Valitov, who were arrested on cybercrime charges. As reported by Oxu.Az, the state prosecutor spoke at the hearing, chaired by Judge Sabuhi Huseynov, in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes.

He requested four years’ imprisonment for the defendants.

The court read out the verdict. By the court’s decision, Igor Zabolotsky and Ilnur Valitov were sentenced to three years’ imprisonment.

The defendants are charged under Article 193-1.3.2 (laundering of criminally acquired property) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. They are accused of laundering 98,000 manats obtained through cybercrime.

Employees of Azerbaijan Railways, arrested five months ago for stealing large quantities of locomotive fuel, have been released. According to Oxu.az, citing Qafqazinfo, the decision was made by the Shirvan Court of Appeal.

The sentences of Eldaniz Sadigov and Famil Soltanova were reduced due to full compensation for material damages in the amount of 107,000 manat, as determined by the court of first instance. Based on Article 70 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan (suspended sentence), they were released from custody right in the courtroom.

The court also upheld the prosecutor’s office’s protest and the complaints of the Azerbaijan Railways. The defendants were additionally obligated to satisfy their civil claims.

Eldeniz Sadigov, 58, served as the head of the Imishli supply point of the Azerbaijan Railways Fuel and Energy Resources Management Department. Famil Soltanov, 37, worked as a mainline diesel locomotive driver at the Imishli locomotive section of the Infrastructure Department’s train control service.

During the trial, the defendants admitted guilt in stealing 70 tons of diesel fuel and expressed remorse. Sadigov was previously sentenced to six years in prison, and Soltanov to five years and six months.

Azerbaijan Railways CJSC also issued an official statement regarding this matter.
