The Sabail District Court sentenced Etibar Imamverdiyev, accused under Articles 233-4.2.3 and 273.4 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, to six years in prison, Oxu.Az reports.

Imamverdiyev, exposed by the State Security Service (SSS) for organizing illegal international telecommunications services in Azerbaijan through a transnational network and who was on the international wanted list, was detained in a foreign country and extradited to Azerbaijan after lengthy legal proceedings.

It was established that Imamverdiyev, along with other individuals associated with him, secretly connected to the country’s telecommunications network using special equipment, using SIM cards from mobile operators, and redirected incoming phone calls from abroad via the internet through backdoor routes to the local network.

This method established a permanent, illegal international connection outside of state control. E. Imamverdiyev interfered with a computer system of state-owned infrastructure and altered data.

During the trial, it was revealed that, according to investigative documents, these actions, which posed a threat to state security, also caused significant material damage to AzInTelecom, a company belonging to the Azerbaijan Transport and Communications Holding (AZCON).
