Four businessmen to stand trial for failure to return more than 4.5 million manats

Criminal cases against four individuals accused of failing to return foreign currency received from the export of agricultural products to the country have been sent to court in Azerbaijan, Oxu.Az reports with reference to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

According to the State Customs Committee, a number of business entities exporting various goods to foreign countries do not return foreign currency to Azerbaijan. Based on this information, the prosecutor’s office has opened criminal cases and is conducting a preliminary investigation.

Thus, during the investigation in the Guba District Prosecutor’s Office, it was established that individual Bayram Mammadzade failed to return more than 2.2 million US dollars (more than 3.7 million manats at the exchange rate of the corresponding period) received from the export of agricultural products on a consignment basis to the account of an authorized bank in Azerbaijan. Mammadzade is charged under Article 208.2.1 (failure to return foreign currency from abroad by a group of persons by prior conspiracy) of the Criminal Code, and a preventive measure in the form of police supervision has been chosen against him.

Another defendant in the case is Gurban Mammadov, who failed to return more than 516 thousand dollars (over 877 thousand manat). He is also charged under Article 208.2.1 of the Criminal Code and is under police supervision.

The Agsu District Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a case against Fruit LLC, which failed to return over 114 thousand dollars (over 193 thousand manat) in foreign currency earnings. Asif Badalov is charged under Article 208.2.1 of the Criminal Code, and a preventive measure in the form of police supervision has been chosen against him.

The Saatli District Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a case under Articles 208.2.1 (failure to return foreign currency from abroad by a group of persons) and 308.1 (abuse of office) of the Criminal Code against Qollaktika 01 LLC, which failed to return more than 18 thousand dollars (over 31 thousand manats). Nariman Lazimy has been charged as an accused, taking into account the fact that he had previously been sentenced to imprisonment in another criminal case.

The preliminary investigation of four criminal cases has been completed, they have been sent for consideration to the Guba, Agsu and Saatli District Courts, respectively.
