The trial of the editor-in-chief of the Bizim Dovr newspaper and the Aktualinfo.az website Surkhay Aliyev and his deputy Hikmet Najafli is ongoing in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes. As Report informs, at the hearing chaired by Judge Elmin Rustamov, the state prosecutor asked to sentence Surkhay Aliyev to 9 years in prison, and Hikmet Najafli to 9 years and 6 months.
Earlier, both were arrested by the Main Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. They are accused of fraud and extortion.
It is worth noting that several years ago, Surkhay Aliyev, Hikmet Najafli and the editor-in-chief of the Gundalik Baku newspaper Gabil Veliyev were already detained by the State Security Service (SSS) on similar charges. Gabil Veliyev is also currently under arrest, and his case is being heard in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes.
