The State Security Service detained a person accused of spying for a foreign intelligence service

A hearing was held in the Sabail District Court of Baku to select a preventive measure against a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan (AR) Azer Akif oglu Bagirov, Oxu.Az reports with reference to the press service of the State Security Service (SSS) of the AR. A. Bagirov, accused of high treason in the form of espionage by assisting representatives of a foreign intelligence service, was detained in the territory of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan as a result of measures taken by the SSS and delivered to our country.

It follows from the case materials that the special service of a foreign state attracted Azer Bagirov as a citizen of Azerbaijan in order to conceal its participation in sabotage acts prepared by it in third countries. A. Bagirov, using his status as a citizen of the Azerbaijan Republic in favor of a foreign special service and to the detriment of the country’s national security, deliberately harmed the interests of our state abroad by engaging in espionage activities.

The court chose a preventive measure in the form of arrest for Azer Akif oglu Bagirov under Article 274 (high treason) of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic.
