Former MP sentenced to 9 years in prison

The Baku Court of Grave Crimes sentenced former MP Huseyn Abdullayev to 9 years in prison, Report informs. The state prosecutor had previously petitioned to sentence Abdullayev to 10 years in prison.

Earlier, in 2019, former MP Huseyn Abdullayev was sentenced to 6 years. He was charged with extortion, illegal entrepreneurship, legalization of funds or other property obtained by criminal means, and other acts.

In the new criminal case, Abdullayev was also accused of legalization of property obtained by criminal means. According to the case materials, in order to conceal the true source of the property, he transferred a total of more than 5.5 million manats to the bank accounts of various individuals and legal entities in the Republic of Azerbaijan and foreign countries. The fraud was carried out through 7 bank accounts, which were opened not only in his name, but also in the names of family members. He was also accused of concluding illegal transactions and acquiring real estate in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the name of a close relative.
