The trial on the high-profile case of large-scale fraud involving the former deputy head of the Air Transport Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan, Colonel Rasim Ildirimzade, head of the World Azerbaijan Education Center Zaur Mirzazade and secretary of the Balakan district election commission Goshgar Mammadov continues in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, Oxu.Az reports. The victim Gurban Piriyev spoke at the hearing chaired by Judge Fakhri Mammadov. Answering questions from lawyers, he stated that he transferred a large sum of money to the accused not for appointment to any position, but for the purpose of creating a certain business in the Absheron region.
It is noted that the accused are charged under Article 178.4 (fraud on an especially large scale) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
Rasim Ildirimzade is the brother of the former Khatai district prosecutor Yusif Ildirimzade and the founder of the liquidated Amrahbank Yunus Ildirimzade. Another defendant, Zaur Mirzazade, is also the head of the websites bakutime.az and xalq.az.
According to the indictment, the defendants in the case told Gurban Piriyev that he would be appointed head of the Executive Authority of one of the districts of Baku. Rasim Ildirimzade introduced another member of the group, Goshgar Mammadov, as a high-ranking employee of the Presidential Administration, who would allegedly resolve all issues. And Zaur Mirzazade passed off as a certain Nikhat, who occupies a respectable position.
In order to become the head of the district, Gurban Piriyev handed over 510 thousand manats and gold jewelry worth 34 thousand manats to Rasim Ildirimzade’s people in several installments.
Piriyev subsequently filed a complaint with law enforcement agencies. At the initial stage of the investigation, part of the damage caused to him was compensated. Of the 544 thousand manat in damage, 85 thousand were returned by Rasim Ildirimzade, and 20 thousand by the other accused Zaur Mirzazade and Goshgar Mammadov.
