Azerbaijani citizen extradited from Ukraine

An Azerbaijani citizen who was on the international wanted list has been extradited from Ukraine, Report informs citing the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

In accordance with the requirements of the European Convention on Extradition of December 13, 1957, the petition of the Prosecutor General’s Office for the extradition of Azerbaijani citizen Hikmet Khanlar oglu Veliyev was satisfied by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

Reasonable suspicions were established that Veliyev had committed a crime under Article 182.4 (extortion for the purpose of obtaining property on an especially large scale) of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic, in connection with which a decision was made to bring him in as an accused and put him on the international wanted list.

Veliyev was detained on the territory of Ukraine and today was delivered to Azerbaijan accompanied by a special convoy of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice.
