Sentence passed on persons accused of embezzling about half a million manat

The trial of the criminal case of the former manager of the Premium Bank branch Nazakat Mammadkhanova and the chief cashier of this branch Samira Aliyeva, accused of embezzling 461 thousand manat from the bank, has ended. As Report informs, the sentence was announced at a session in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes chaired by Judge Eldar Ismailov.

According to the sentence, N. Mammadkhanova was sentenced to 7 years in prison, and S. Aliyeva was given a suspended sentence with a probationary period of 2 years. The accused N. Mammadkhanova was arrested in the courtroom.

During the investigation conducted by the Main Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General’s Office, it was established that Nazakat Sharaf gizi Mamedkhanova, manager of branch No. 5 of Premium Bank, used her official position to embezzle 461,170 manats from May 8 to 23 last year. In this case, she was assisted by the chief cashier of the branch, Samira Novruz gizi Aliyeva. The specified amount was transferred from Nazakat Mamedkhanova’s account at the bank to her account on the cryptocurrency trading website Binance.com.

They were charged under Articles 179.3.2 (embezzlement and misappropriation on a large scale), 308.2 (abuse of office resulting in grave consequences) and 313 (forgery) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Premium Bank was recognized as the injured party in the criminal case.
