The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Court for Grave Crimes has completed the trial of Turkish citizen Serkan Alagoz, accused of transporting a large consignment of tramadol tablets (a potent narcotic analgesic) from Iran to Azerbaijan. As reported by Oxu.Az, the sentence was announced at a hearing chaired by Judge Faig Heydarov.
The court sentenced S. Alagoz to 8 years in prison.
According to the indictment, the truck driver Serkan Alagoz was transporting cargo in his own truck. While transporting cargo from Turkey to Iran, Alagoz agreed to deliver a large consignment of tramadol from Iran to Azerbaijan for a monetary reward of 250 thousand liras (approximately 11 thousand manats – ed.). He was detained in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic by customs officers while attempting to smuggle 28,605 tablets of a potent narcotic drug into the country, weighing a total of 6.5 kg.
