Court upholds former police officer’s sentence in fraud case

The Supreme Court has considered the cassation appeal of former detective Elvin Hashimli, accused of fraud in the amount of 2.5 million manats.

As reported by Oxu.Az, despite the consideration of the complaint during the trial, it was not satisfied. The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Baku Court of Appeal.

According to the indictment, former detective of the Khatai District Police Department Elvin Hashimli, giving false promises to businessman Mehkem Samedov about starting a business, fraudulently took possession of his 2.5 million manats.

During the trial on the criminal case considered in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, the state prosecutor demanded 12 years of imprisonment for E. Hashimli, but the court came to the conclusion that the fact was not proven and acquitted him. Despite the fact that the Baku Court of Appeal upheld the sentence, the prosecutor filed a cassation appeal to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court upheld the appeal and sent the case for reconsideration to the Baku Court of Appeal.

By the decision of the Baku Court of Appeal, Elvin Hashimli was sentenced to 10 years in prison and arrested in the courtroom.
