Specialists from the Prosecutor General’s Office to check the amount of damage in the case of embezzlement in the Chamber of Auditors

The trial of the embezzlement case in the Chamber of Auditors of Azerbaijan is ongoing in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes. As Report informs, due to the change in the composition of the court, a decision was made to resume the investigation in court.

During the trial, the defense of the accused Veli Rahimov requested that the executive director of the Chamber, Sabuhi Gulmammadov, be questioned as a witness, but the court rejected the request. The accused himself stated that the amount of damage in the amount of 147 thousand manats was unreasonably attributed to him on the basis of a forged document. The court decided to involve specialists from the Prosecutor General’s Office to establish the exact amount of damage.

It also became known that part of the damage in the amount of 170 thousand manats has already been compensated.

According to the indictment, the head of the Financial Support and External Relations Department of the Chamber of Auditors, Veli Rahimov, the department’s financier, Govhar Akhmedova, and accountant, Farida Novruzova, opened bank cards in the names of their relatives and transferred funds intended for various payments to them in the period from 2018. The total amount of theft is estimated at 717,311 thousand manats.

All three are charged under Articles 179.4 (large-scale embezzlement), 308.2 (abuse of office), and 313 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

The Chamber of Auditors is recognized as the injured party.
