Thalassemia’s case trial: verdict passed

The trial of Nurida Seidova, Aynur Bayramova and Aysel Mammadova, accused of fraudulently embezzling funds collected for children with thalassemia and other patients, has ended in the Baku Grave Crimes Court under the chairmanship of Judge Azad Majidov.
According to Oxu.Az, the verdict was read to the accused at the last court session. Nurida Seidova was sentenced to 8 years and 6 months, Aynur Bayramova to 7 years and 6 months, and Aysel Mammadova to 6 years and 6 months in prison.
At the previous hearing, the state prosecutor made an indictment and proposed that the court sentence the accused Nurida Seidova to 9 years and 6 months, Aynur Bayramova to 9 years, and Aysel Mammadova to 8 years in prison.
Law enforcement agencies received information about fraud against the parents of children with thalassemia. Based on this information, a criminal case was initiated. It was established that Nurida Seidova, together with Aysel Mammadova and Aynur Bayramova, abused the trust of the parents of 36 children with thalassemia, and appropriated 980 thousand manats from these individuals under the pretext of treating their children in Turkey.
The accused were charged under Article 178.3.2 (fraud committed with causing damage on a large scale) of the Criminal Code.
