Former bribe-taking judge’s appeal rejected

The Ganja Court of Appeal considered the complaint of former judge of the Barda District Court Elsun Akhmedov, accused of accepting a bribe. As reported by Oxu.Az, the court did not satisfy the appeal.
It should be noted that by the decision of the Judicial-Legal Council dated December 21, 2023 on the issue of assessing the activities of judges, the term of office of former judge Elsun Akhmedov was not extended, since professional shortcomings were identified in his activities.
Based on the initial evidence collected in the case, E. Akhmedov was detained as a suspect, and on February 8, he was charged under Article 311.3.3 (accepting a bribe in a large amount) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Based on the petition of the investigative body and the submission of the prosecutor exercising procedural guidance of the preliminary investigation, the court decided to choose a preventive measure in the form of house arrest for the accused.
The Ganja Court of Grave Crimes sentenced him to 5 years in prison.
