Court sentences gold smugglers worth over 100,000 manats

The Baku Court of Grave Crimes has completed the trial of Sabina Aliyeva, Kamala Mammadova and Sabina Nasibova, who are accused of attempting to smuggle gold jewelry worth over 100,000 manats into Azerbaijan.
As Report informs, at the trial chaired by Judge Rasim Sadykhov in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, the state prosecutor demanded that all three defendants be sentenced to 7 years in prison with arrest in the courtroom.
After that, the sentence was read to the defendants. According to the sentence, Article 70 of the Criminal Code (Suspended Sentence) was applied to them. Thus, the defendants were given a suspended sentence with a probationary period of 2 years.
According to the charges, they tried to smuggle gold jewelry weighing about 1 kg worth more than 100 thousand manats into Azerbaijan. At the preliminary investigation stage, a preventive measure in the form of police supervision was chosen for all three women.
The State Customs Committee was recognized as the injured party in the criminal case.
