Over 6 million manats stolen from bank cards in four months of this year

Over 6 million manats were stolen from citizens’ bank cards in Azerbaijan in the first four months of 2025 using cybercriminal schemes. As reported by the Nakhchivan bureau of Report, this was stated by the head of the Information and Cybersecurity Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan Hikmet Mammadov at the Cyber ​​Sovereignty conference in Nakhchivan.

He noted that cyberspace poses a serious economic threat.

“In 2024, the damage to citizens from bank card fraud exceeded 22 million manats. Since the beginning of this year, the amount of damage has already exceeded 6 million. Analysis has shown that thefts occur as a result of gaining access to confidential data of cardholders through various methods,” Mammadov said.

He emphasized the importance of educational work and increasing cyber literacy among the population.
