Convicted of large-scale fraud

A 53-year-old woman who claimed to be a clairvoyant has been detained in Baku on charges of large-scale fraud. She deceived two women, including a Ukrainian citizen, having swindled them out of a total of 74,000 manats. As Oxu.Az reports with reference to musavat.com, Nargiz Soltanova was taken into custody right in the courtroom by the decision of the Baku Court of Grave Crimes.

According to the victims, N. Soltanova used manipulation, isolation and intimidation methods, claiming that any doubts or termination of rituals would lead to catastrophic consequences.

Despite the testimonies of the victims and witnesses, the defendant herself did not admit guilt. She stated that she did not perform any rituals, but only shared her “feelings” and tried to help as an “older sister”.

However, the court found N. Soltanova’s guilt proven. She was sentenced to 5 years in prison. The previously chosen measure of restraint in the form of a written undertaking not to leave was replaced by arrest – the woman was taken into custody in the courtroom.
