The defendants in the meclis.info case were read the indictment

The Baku Court of Grave Crimes held another hearing on the criminal case of the head of the meclis.info website Imran Aliyev, public activist Elgiz Gahraman and Tamella Musayeva. As reported by Oxu.Az, at the trial, chaired by Judge Roman Alakbarli, prosecutor Jovdat Mehraliyev read the indictment to the defendants.

The investigation established that the meclis.info website and the accounts of the same name on social networks were not registered in accordance with the procedure established by law. All three are accused of using the aforementioned website to receive grants from foreign donor organizations, as well as of failing to declare the corresponding money at customs and smuggling it into the country.

According to the indictment, they also prepared forged documents while committing these actions. In addition, the said persons are accused of committing the above-mentioned acts together with the defendants in the Abzas Media case.

I. Aliyev, E. Gahramanli and T. Musayeva pleaded not guilty.

The next hearing is scheduled for June 17.

Imran Aliyev was arrested on April 19, 2024. Elgiz Gahraman and Tamella Musayeva were later found guilty in the case, and a preventive measure in the form of police supervision was chosen for them.

It should be noted that the defendants were charged under eight articles of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan – 192.2.2 (illegal entrepreneurship with the extraction of income on a large scale), 192.2.3 (illegal entrepreneurship committed by an organized group), 193-1.3.1 (legalization of property obtained by criminal means committed by an organized group or criminal organization), 193-1.3.2 (legalization of property obtained by criminal means committed on a large scale), 206.4 (smuggling committed by an organized group), 213.2.1 (tax evasion – committed by an organized group), 320.1 (forgery or illegal production of an identity card or other official document), 320.2 (use of knowingly forged documents).
