The state prosecutor demanded severe punishment for the former chairman of the municipality

The trial of the criminal case of the former chairman of the Yeni Surakhani municipality Fikret Guliyev has ended in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes. As reported by Oxu.Az, at the final session chaired by Judge Novruz Kerimov, the prosecutor, who made an indictment speech, proposed the court to sentence F. Guliyev to 11 years in prison.

After the speeches, the court scheduled the next session for June 25.

During the investigation, reasonable suspicions arose that during his tenure in the said position, F. Guliyev received large sums of money from numerous individuals as bribes for the provision of land plots to citizens, for construction work and for other purposes, and also committed other illegal actions in the performance of official duties.

Based on the collected evidence, F. Guliyev was charged under Articles 311.3.2, 311.3.3 (receiving a bribe (passive bribery, committed repeatedly, on a large scale), 312-1 (illegal influence on the decision of an official (trading in authority)) and 313 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. By a court decision, based on the petition of the investigator and the submission of the prosecutor who carried out procedural management of the preliminary investigation, a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen for the accused.
