Former Head of State Customs Committee Department sentenced

The trial of the former head of the transit department of the State Customs Committee (SCC) Anar Aslanov, accused of accepting a bribe, has ended in the Sumgait Court for Grave Crimes, Oxu.Az reports. The verdict was read out at the hearing chaired by Judge Nahid Mirzoyev. The court sentenced A. Aslanov to 8 years and 6 months in prison.

According to the indictment, A. Aslanov was detained during an operation conducted by employees of the Main Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General. He abused his official powers and created conditions for the illegal registration of more than 800 cars imported from Georgia to Azerbaijan, with a release period exceeding 10 years, for large bribes received from individuals.

He was charged under Articles 308.2. (abuse of power resulting in grave consequences) and 311.3.3. (accepting a bribe in a large amount) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
