Punishment for theft to be toughened in Azerbaijan

The punishment for theft, that is, the secret theft of someone else’s property, will be toughened. The term of imprisonment for this act will be increased from two to three years. As APA reports, this is reflected in the proposed amendment to the Criminal Code, which was discussed at today’s meeting of the Milli Majlis.

According to the bill, theft, that is, the secret theft of someone else’s property, is punishable by community service for a period of 360 to 480 hours, or correctional labor for up to 2 years, or restriction of freedom for up to 2 years, or imprisonment for up to 3 years.

According to the current Code, theft, i.e. secret theft of someone else’s property, is punishable by compulsory labor for a term of 360 to 480 hours, or correctional labor for up to 2 years, or restriction of freedom for up to 2 years, or imprisonment for up to 2 years.

After discussions, the bill was put to a vote and adopted in the third reading.
