Supreme Court rejects cassation appeal of former captain accused of treason

A court hearing was held in the Supreme Court on the cassation appeal against the verdict against the former captain of the Caspian Sea Oil Fleet vessel Zakhir Askerov, accused of treason. As Report informs, at the hearing chaired by Judge Tahir Kazimov, the appeal was not satisfied, the decision of the lower court was upheld.

Recall that Zakhir Askerov was sentenced to 16 years in prison by the decision of the Baku Court of Grave Crimes. The Baku Court of Appeal upheld the verdict of the first instance.

As a result of the measures taken by the State Security Service (SSS) to prevent intelligence and sabotage activities carried out by the special services of the Islamic Republic of Iran against the Republic of Azerbaijan, it was established that Zahir Fakhreddin oglu Askerov, who held the position of captain of a vessel in the Caspian Sea Oil Fleet, was collecting information damaging the sovereignty and defense capability of Azerbaijan on the instructions of foreign special services.
