The prosecutor’s office has filed an appeal against the sentence against former officials of the State Customs Committee (SCC) of Azerbaijan accused of smuggling. As reported by Oxu.Az, the Baku Court of Grave Crimes has completed the consideration of the criminal case on the fact of gold smuggling by Parvin Dursunaliyev, Mansur Mehdiyev and Ali Ibrahimov.
During the investigation, grounds were revealed for suspicion that on July 8, 2024, an employee of the Azerterminalcomplex Association P. Dursunaliyev, seconded to the Main Customs Administration for Air Transport of the State Customs Committee, and an inspector of the scanning department of the same main administration M. Mehdiyev, acting in collusion with his acquaintance A. Ibrahimov, made it possible for the latter to secretly transport five gold bars of 999.9 fineness with a total weight of about 1.4 kg worth 190,400 manat, purchased in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, through the border checkpoint of the airport on the customs border of the Republic of Azerbaijan with the help of other members of the criminal group.
By the decision of the court, each of the accused was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment, however, with the application of Article 70 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, the punishment was suspended with a probationary period of 2 years.
The state prosecutor filed an appeal against this sentence.
