Azerbaijani special services uncover a network that distributed videos about the private lives of citizens

The State Security Service of Azerbaijan (SSS) carried out operational and technical measures to identify and suppress illegal activities related to remote unauthorized access to surveillance cameras installed in residential and office premises throughout the country. As Report informs, cybercriminals gained remote access to video cameras through vulnerabilities in security systems and systematically stole video materials containing confidential information about the personal and family lives of citizens.
The stolen data was subsequently published on foreign Internet resources.
It was also established that user accounts were put up for sale, providing the ability to view real-time video recordings from cameras installed at various addresses in Azerbaijan.
As a result of operational actions, special services managed to identify the exact locations of surveillance cameras that were subjected to cyber interference, and to identify system vulnerabilities in the software of devices that were used by intruders to gain unauthorized access.
To eliminate the vulnerabilities, official notifications were sent to equipment manufacturers, and illegally obtained video materials posted on foreign Internet resources were removed.
