Hackers from Azerbaijan stole data of 450 thousand citizens: details of a high-profile cybercrime

Details of a criminal case against individuals who illegally accessed the databases of the Ministry of Health e-health.gov.az, the Ministry of Science and Education miq.edu.az and other state bodies of Azerbaijan have become known. The criminals took possession of the personal data of the country’s citizens and tried to organize their sale.

As reported by Oxu.Az, the suspects were detained as a result of a special operation carried out by the State Security Service (SSS) of Azerbaijan.

The defendants in the case are 21-year-old Javid Dunyamaliyev and 18-year-old Jalil Jalilov. They were charged under Articles 271.3 (illegal access to a computer system committed in relation to a computer system of an infrastructure facility of public importance or any part thereof), 272.3 (illegal seizure of computer information committed in relation to a computer system of an infrastructure facility of public importance or any part thereof) and 273-1.4.2 (circulation of funds produced for the commission of cybercrimes committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, an organized group or a criminal community) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
By the court’s decision, Javid Dunyamaliev was sentenced to 5 years in prison, and Jalil Jalilov – to 4 years and 6 months in prison.

During the investigation, Javid was in custody, and a preventive measure in the form of police supervision was chosen for Jalil. The court decided to take Jalil into custody. He was arrested in the courtroom and sent to a correctional facility.
