Sentence passed on persons posing as officials and embezzling money

The judicial investigation of the criminal case against Ilkin Babayev, Eldar Muradov and Mobil Hasanzade, accused of embezzling citizens’ money by deception, posing as officials, has been completed. As reported by Oxu.Az, at the last hearing chaired by Judge Roman Alakbarli of the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, the verdict was read out, according to which Mobil Hasanzade was sentenced to 7 years and 10 months, and Ilkin Babayev to 8 years and 9 months in prison. Eldar Muradov was given a suspended sentence with a probationary period of 2 years.

During the investigation, it was established that Ilkin Babayev, Eldar Muradov, Mobil Gasanzade and others, acting by prior conspiracy, posing as employees of various government agencies, seized funds from individuals totaling more than 712,000 manats under the pretext of employment, termination of investigations by law enforcement agencies, obtaining academic degrees, etc.

For these acts, Ilkin Babayev and other individuals were charged under Articles 178.3.2 (fraud causing major damage), 310 (appropriation of official powers) and other articles of the Criminal Code, and the criminal case was sent for consideration to the Baku Court of Grave Crimes.

During the preliminary investigation, compensation for part of the damage caused was ensured.

It should be noted that a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen for the accused Mobil Gasanzade and Ilkin Babayev, and a preventive measure not related to arrest was chosen for Eldar Muradov.
