Court toughens sentence for former head of Jalilabad municipality

The Shirvan Court of Appeal has toughened the sentence of former chairman of the Jalilabad district municipality Mehdi Kerimov, Report informs. The appeal of the convicts was rejected, and the prosecutor’s protest in the Kerimov case was satisfied.

According to the new decision, the provisions on mitigation of punishment were canceled, and Kerimov was sentenced to 8 years in prison.

He and former chief architect of the district Sahil Gemberli were arrested in 2023 after an anti-corruption operation. Earlier, by the decision of the Lankaran Court for Grave Crimes, Kerimov received a 6-year prison term, Gemberli – 8. Both were found guilty of abuse of office and accepting large bribes.
