Azerbaijan significantly simplifies the procedure for appointing judges

In recent years, Azerbaijan has been implementing important reforms aimed at improving the judicial system and enhancing the quality of justice. The steps taken pave the way for the necessary changes both at the practical and legislative levels. As Report informs, one of the key innovations in this context is the improvement of the procedure for selecting judges.

Previously, the selection of candidates for the position of judge was a complex process, accompanied by numerous additional elements. However, now this process has been significantly simplified and accelerated.

To be more precise, candidates for the position of judge are now selected based on the results of a test exam, a written exam and a competition. That is, the previously tedious 6-stage selection procedure has now been reduced to only 3 stages.

The training procedure has also been changed. Previously, candidates underwent lengthy preparatory courses before their appointment, now they will undergo training after their appointment to the position.

According to the new system, distribution by regions takes into account the scores scored on the exams and the preferences of the candidates themselves. This increases the fairness and transparency of the procedure.

In addition, the age limit of 30 years has been abolished. Now citizens of Azerbaijan with a higher legal education and at least five years of experience in the specialty can apply for the position of judge.

The measures are intended to simplify access to the judicial profession and contribute to the formation of a more effective judicial corps.
