A judgement passed on a person accused of crimes against the constitutional order of Azerbaijan

The trial of Imamverdi Akhmedov, who is accused of organizing crimes against the constitutional order of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has ended, Oxu.Az reports. The Ganja Court of Grave Crimes, chaired by Judge Dadash Imanov, found I. Akhmedov guilty and sentenced him to 10 years in prison.

According to the court’s decision, the convicted person will serve his sentence in a strict regime correctional facility. The criminal case against Imamverdi Akhmedov was initiated by the State Security Service (SSS) of Azerbaijan. He was charged under Article 28,278.2 (preparatory actions aimed at the violent change of the constitutional order of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including its secular nature, or the dismemberment of territorial integrity, or the violent seizure of power on the basis of religious hatred, religious radicalism or religious fanaticism) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

According to the indictment, since April 2023, I. Akhmedov has been gathering people with similar radical religious beliefs around him with the aim of organizing unrest in Azerbaijan. The plans also included acts of violence against government officials and the violent change of the constitutional order in the country. He was detained during operational activities carried out by the State Security Service.
