A group that attempted to smuggle a large consignment of medicines and cigarettes into Azerbaijan has been exposed, Oxu.Az reports. The incident occurred at the Red Bridge customs post of the Tovuz Customs Department of the State Customs Committee, located in the administrative territory of the Gazakh region.
Turkish citizen Sakit Hasan (hereinafter, names and surnames are conditional), in collusion with a truck driver, Azerbaijani citizen Azad Akhmedov, tried to smuggle medicines and cigarettes worth 558,923 manats 49 qepiks, which they had purchased in Turkey, across the Turkish border to Georgia, and from there to Azerbaijan. They were detained by border guards at the Red Bridge while smuggling the goods into Azerbaijan. It turned out that the group members received a deposit for selling medicines and cigarettes in Azerbaijan.
The perpetrators were detained, a criminal case was opened and sent to the Ganja Court for Grave Crimes.
The court sentenced S. Hasan to 7 years, and A. Akhmedov to 6 years and 6 months of imprisonment.
