Court upholds arrest of real estate fraud defendant

The Baku Court of Appeal refused to change the preventive measure in the form of arrest against Elshad Safarov, accused of large-scale real estate fraud. As reported by Oxu.Az, he is accused of receiving residential and non-residential properties owned by various persons by power of attorney, selling them, and fraudulently appropriating the proceeds – about 1 million manats.
A criminal case was initiated against the defendant under Article 178.3.2 (fraud causing major damage) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. A petition was filed with the Surakhani District Court to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention.
By the decision of the Surakhani District Court dated August 15, 2025, a preventive measure in the form of arrest for a period of 2 months was chosen against E. Safarov.
