Fraudster posing as law enforcement officer arrested

A citizen who committed fraudulent acts under the guise of a law enforcement officer, offering employment and payment of customs duties for a car, has been arrested. As reported by Oxu.Az, the Main Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan investigated the activities of Agasaf Guliyev (born in 1971) based on a received appeal.

It was established that the fraudster took 108,000 manat, promising to arrange a prestigious position for the victim’s son in law enforcement. In addition, he lured an additional 25,000 manat under the pretext of registering a car brought from abroad.

When the victim began to notice that the promises were not being fulfilled, the fraudster provided false information each time, conducted fictitious telephone conversations, assuring that the issues had already been resolved, and the relevant checks were still ongoing.

A criminal case has been opened on this fact under the article of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan on fraud. By the court’s decision, a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen for A. Guliyev.

Investigative measures on the criminal case are ongoing.
