The Main Directorate for Combating Cybercrime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs continues operational and preventive measures to ensure the safety of citizens on social networks and other online platforms, Oxu.Az reports with reference to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
During the next event, 22-year-old Rashad Mamedov was detained, suspected of cyberattacking women’s TikTok, Instagram and other social network pages and stealing their personal data.
During the investigation, it was revealed that R. Mamedov hacked accounts on TikTok, Instagram and other platforms, gained access to personal photos and videos of his victims, edited them, adding unethical sound effects using special programs, and then published them on his social network pages. After which Mamedov contacted the victims, told them that he had created fake pages on their behalf, and, threatening, demanded various amounts of money in exchange for deleting the defamatory profiles.
Based on these facts, the Main Directorate initiated a criminal case under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. R. Mamedov was brought to criminal responsibility as an accused, and a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen for him during the investigation.
Measures are being taken to identify other persons who suffered from his illegal actions.
