Founder of Joy Travel arrested for fraud

The Prosecutor’s Office of Khatai District of Baku received numerous complaints about illegal actions of officials of Joy Tour LLC and Joy Travel, which act as private travel agencies. As reported by Oxu.Az with reference to the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan, based on the results of the investigation, reasonable suspicions arose that the founder of the companies, Rashad Ilyasov, abused his official position contrary to official interests, fraudulently and abused trust, received money from more than 20 people who contacted the company to purchase travel packages and air tickets to various foreign countries. Ilyasov spent the funds received on personal needs, thus committing fraud.

On this fact, the prosecutor’s office initiated a criminal case under Articles 178.2.2 (fraud committed repeatedly), 178.2.4 (fraud causing significant damage) and 308.1 (abuse of office) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Rashad Ilyasov was brought in as an accused under the said articles, based on the petition of the investigator and the submission of the prosecutor who carries out the procedural management of the preliminary investigation, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of arrest against him.

Currently, as part of the preliminary investigation, to determine the material damage caused as a result of offenses in Joy Tour LLC and Joy Travel, and to identify the persons responsible for these offenses, a comprehensive audit of the financial and economic activities of the enterprises has been appointed, the implementation of which has been entrusted to the Chamber of Auditors of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Based on the results of the relevant inspections, all participants in the crime committed will be identified and brought to justice.
