From January to August 2025, law enforcement agencies in Azerbaijan uncovered a total of 5,874 crimes as a result of comprehensive operational and investigative measures to combat drug addiction and the illegal trafficking of prohibited substances, Oxu.Az reports, citing information from the permanent Working Group of the State Commission to Combat Drug Addiction and Illegal Drug Trafficking.
Of the identified crimes, 1,818 were related to the illegal sale of narcotics, 3,890 to the illegal acquisition and possession of narcotics, 164 to the illegal cultivation of plants containing narcotic substances, and two cases related to other crimes in this category.
A total of 5,992 kg, 30.92 grams of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances were seized from illegal circulation. Of these, 5 tons 306 kg 678,863 g were marijuana, 250 kg 966.55 g were heroin, 119 kg 866.229 g were opium, 60 kg 593,938 g were hashish, 150 kg 165,907 g were other narcotics, and 103 kg 759,433 g were psychotropic substances.
Also, during this period, 5,183 units of methadone, 16,363 cannabis plants, and 588.2 g (95 tablets and 39 capsules) of potent substances were seized from illegal circulation.
