The Baku Court of Grave Crimes has issued a verdict in the case of the attempted import of 41 gold bars into Azerbaijan, Report informs. Afsar Mirzaliyev and Safar Safarov, former employees of the State Customs Committee, were in the dock.
The court, presided over by Judge Nigar Imanova, found both men guilty and sentenced each to five years in prison.
Mirzaliyev, who previously worked in the State Customs Committee’s Anti-Smuggling Department, was convicted under Articles 206.3.2 and 206.3.3 of the Criminal Code (smuggling by a group of persons using their official position). Safarov was convicted under Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code. The case was investigated by the Main Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General’s Office.
