Witnesses questioned in court in the case of those accused of financing terrorism

The Baku Court of Grave Crimes continued the criminal case brought by the State Security Service (SSS) against Khagani Omarov, Anar Salamzade, and Elchin Azizov, accused of financing terrorism.

According to Oxu.Az, a motion to terminate the criminal prosecution against Khagani Omarov was considered at a hearing chaired by Judge Nigar Imanova. The motion was submitted by the defendant’s lawyer. In justifying the motion, the lawyer stated that the purpose of Khagani Omarov’s transfer of funds to Syria was not to finance terrorism, but to provide financial assistance to certain individuals. The court dismissed the motion as unfounded.

Then, witness testimony was heard, after which the testimony of witnesses who were unable to attend the hearing for certain reasons was read.

The next hearing was scheduled for October 28.

The individuals mentioned were detained as part of a State Security Service (SGB) operation. According to the indictment, the defendants transferred funds to certain individuals operating in a foreign country for the purpose of supporting terrorism. They are charged under Article 214-1 (financing of terrorism) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
