A preparatory court hearing has been held in the criminal case against Bashir Suleymanli, head of the Civil Rights Institute and one of the defendants in the “NGO Case” APA reports. The Baku Court of Grave Crimes, chaired by Judge Vugar Seyidov, granted a motion for Bashir Suleymanli to sit next to his lawyer.
Then, his personal information was clarified. The defendant, Bashir Suleymanli, filed a motion to dismiss the criminal case, claiming that the income he received was legally provided by the US and UK governments. His defense attorney, Elchin Sadigov, also requested that the motion be granted.
The state prosecutor proposed to dismiss the motions. After deliberating, the court dismissed the motions and ordered the criminal case to be referred to trial.
The next hearing is scheduled for October 23.
Bashir Suleymanli was arrested in March of this year and charged under Articles 313, 193-1.3.2, and 308.2 of the Criminal Code. The Binagadi District Court ordered his pretrial detention.
