Azerbaijan changes the fine for laundering criminally obtained property

The fine for laundering criminally obtained property will no longer be a fixed amount, but rather between fifty and seventy percent of the value of the crime. According to APA, this is stipulated in amendments to the Criminal Code submitted for discussion today in the Milli Majlis.

According to current legislation, the laundering of criminally obtained property is punishable by a fine of four to eight thousand manats or deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years (with or without this penalty), as well as imprisonment for two to five years.

According to the draft amendments, the penalty will include a fine of 50% to 70% of the value of the crime committed, or deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years (with or without this penalty), as well as imprisonment for two to five years.

The bill was put to a vote and adopted on first reading.
