In Azerbaijan, officials of several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) who illegally produced and awarded orders and medals to numerous individuals have been prosecuted, APA reports, citing the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General’s Office has opened a criminal case and is conducting a preliminary investigation into the illegal creation of various orders and medals and their awarding to individuals by several NGOs operating in Azerbaijan.
During the searches and investigative actions, 1,518 orders and medals, 777 certificates for orders and medals, 7 brochures, records of the presentation of these awards to 8,069 individuals at various times, and other material evidence were seized.
Based on the collected preliminary evidence, charges are filed under Article 100 of the Criminal Code. Charges under Article 309.1 of the Criminal Code (abuse of power) were brought against Sayyaf Orujov, Chairman of the International Disabled Servicemen Foundation; Mehdi Mehdiyev, Chairman of the Union of Disabled Persons, Veterans of the Karabakh War, and Martyrs’ Families of Azerbaijan; and Fizuli Rzaguliyev, Chairman of the Union of Veterans of the Patriotic War of Azerbaijan.
Concurrently, legal proceedings are ongoing regarding similar incidents, as well as efforts to identify and prosecute other NGO officials who committed offenses in this area.
