Details of the arrest of the head of the Central Military Sanatorium of the Ministry of Defense

Details have emerged regarding the arrest of Major Ilham Hagverdiyev, head of the Central Military Sanatorium of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan. According to oxu.az, the Military Prosecutor’s Office uncovered the corruption. Based on the investigation’s findings, appropriate measures have been taken. The preliminary investigation established that Hagverdiyev, abusing his official position, employed civilians in exchange for bribes.
Specifically, he received 2,500 manat for appointing one person as a fire safety inspector, as well as 1,500 manat for hiring a woman as a cleaner. Furthermore, Hagverdiyev reportedly took 500 manat for transferring the facility administrator from the night shift to the day shift, as well as an additional amount for extending the employment contract of a diesel electrician.
The major has been charged under Article 311.3.2 (repeated bribe-taking) of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code. The investigation is currently ongoing. It is possible that additional criminal activity may be uncovered during the preliminary investigation.
The defendant himself disputes the charges. Today, he filed an appeal against the decision to place him in custody.
