Customs authorities seized over a ton of drugs from illegal circulation in nine months

State Customs Committee (SCC) officers seized 1 ton, 3 kg, and 375 grams of narcotics from 72 illegal seizures between January and September of this year, according to Report, citing the agency. The seized drugs included over 990.9 kg of marijuana, 10.6 kg of methamphetamine, 990 g of heroin, as well as hashish, opium, methadone, cocaine, codeine, and other drugs.
During this period, appropriate measures were taken against 76 individuals suspected of involvement in drug-related crimes, 35 of whom were Azerbaijani citizens and 41 foreigners. Additionally, 19 criminal groups were identified.
Customs officers also prevented 53 cases of illegal trafficking of potent drugs containing sibutramine, weighing a total of approximately 1.2 kg.
The drugs were detected in 28 cases upon import, 48 cases during transit, and one case within the country.
Furthermore, over 5.2 tons of narcotic and psychotropic substances seized in 50 criminal cases from previous years have been destroyed this year.
