The trial of Rufat Hajiyev, former head of the Guba-Khachmaz Regional Education Department, has concluded. According to oxu.az, Hajiyev was found guilty of accepting a bribe on an especially large scale and laundering proceeds of crime, and was sentenced to eight years and six months in prison. His seized property was also confiscated in favor of the state. The defendant disagreed with the sentence and filed an appeal.
Rufat Hajiyev was prosecuted by the Main Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General’s Office. The case file indicates that during his employment, the defendant personally received a total of over 65,000 manat from various individuals for extending his employment contract, appointing him to the position of principal of a secondary school, refusing to conduct inspections at educational institutions, providing favoritism, and other illegal purposes.
At the same time, he laundered more than 175,000 manats obtained through criminal means by conducting various financial transactions on behalf of his relatives.
