A major smuggling scheme at the border prevented

Thanks to the use of modern risk analysis methods, digital target tracking algorithms, and real-time monitoring systems, the Targeting Center of the Main Directorate for Operational and Investigative Work of the State Customs Committee (SCC) of Azerbaijan prevented an attempt to smuggle a significant quantity of pharmaceuticals into the country.

According to Oxu.Az, citing the SCC, the Center’s analytical platform discovered that a vehicle transporting a cargo of potatoes from Turkey to Azerbaijan had deviated from its declared route. In addition, discrepancies in the cargo documentation were identified. The vehicle was seized at the Red Bridge customs post of the Tovuz Customs Department.

As a result of coordinated efforts, the vehicle’s location was quickly determined. An initial inspection revealed signs of illegal tampering with the cargo compartment.

A mobile team discovered cardboard boxes hidden inside potatoes that the smugglers were attempting to smuggle out. The boxes contained 22,000 units of medications across 90 different brands.

An investigation is underway.

“The State Customs Committee reminds that the illegal import of medications across the border poses a serious threat to human life and health. Such actions are unacceptable, and those responsible will be held strictly accountable,” the agency emphasized.
